What to do after a death

Plain steps, with sources · Texas, plus federal steps for every state

This is a prototype under test. It is here so people can tell us whether it is useful — please don't rely on it to make a decision yet.

What we keep

The short version: we never ask for your name, we keep your answers for 30 days, and you can delete them right now.

What we never ask for

We never ask for your name, the name of the person who died, an address, or any account or Social Security numbers. Every question is answered by choosing from a list, so there is nowhere to type them.

What we keep, and for how long

Both are deleted automatically after 30 days. You can delete them sooner at any time — the button appears at the bottom of every page once you've started.

Feedback

If you send feedback, we keep it to improve the site. It is stored separately and isn't linked to your answers, so deleting your answers doesn't delete it — please leave out anything personal.

What we don't do

No analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts run on this site. We don't sell or share what you tell us, and we don't use it to train AI. Like any website, our server records which pages were requested and from what internet address; those records never include your answers.

This describes how the prototype works today. If it changes, this page will say so first.
